OUR POOL VANDALIZED!!!    YET AGAIN !!!     AND CLOSED !
This Page Has Lots of Pics - "Loads" Very Slow ....
The following Photos were taken 7-23-08...
I (Sam Judie of 811 Schooner Dr - 566-4181) just happened to stop by to peek over the gate to see why there was a "Pool Closed" sign on the gate...and while there, "Noah" of Oasis Pool Service (guessing his name and name of pool service) drove up and let me into the pool area to take these photos...... WOW!!!!
Hmmmmmmm?  From here it looks ok?
Our plexiglass "Bulletin Board" is broken and looking pretty sad?  :(
The best Bulletin Board ever is our very own Website:
RiverLandingHenderson.com  (or just river1234.com)
This is the front wall (facing Anchor) and the "look-like" fake barbed wire is no deterrent to kids just hopping over the wall...
they easily give a "hand up" to each kid to get over the wall and into our pool
Again....the fake "barbed wire" no real deterrent to teenagers bent on using our pool and to vandalize it.
Our Surveillance Cameras have not been much of a deterrent to stop the vandalism?.
Our Pool has several 'hidden' - points of entry!
The wrought iron bars are just "tack welded" and are easily broken with just hitting them with your shoe and then bending these flimsy bars back far enough to make an opening for these "poor neglected teenagers" to use our pool .......and then destroying it.
Our Pool has several 'hidden' - points of entry! (Above right photo ...several bars missing on left side!)

The photo above is inside our pool area....that concrete thing is what is left of a light pole....notice the new sod?  Noah said in weeks past, the kids 'roll up' the sod and toss it into our pool!
Look what's in OUR POOL!  Nice eh?
That my friends is the concrete bottom of one of our light poles!  These kids are strong!  WOW!
And those two holes above is where one of our pool ladders used to be?
Just some of the very expensive things us homeowners will have to pay for to have replaced?
See what's left of yet another light pole?
Should we turn off all power?  Are those wires still "hot"?
Whoops!  No!  Power is NOT OFF!  Noah the "pool guy" showed me something else that is broken?
Nope!  Power still on........pumps still running......why?  Pool is out of commission for some time now!
We should turn off ALL power (save some money) ....and there just may be some hot wires in pool area as well?  All those broken light poles?  Should we temporarily suspend our daily pool service until our pool is fully repaired? It looks like it will be some weeks and several thousands of dollars before we will be needing a daily "Pool Service"?
More Exposed Wires?  POWER should be turned off?
More Exposed Wires?  POWER should be turned off?

When did this last bout of vandalism take place?
Was it before our HOA meeting of July 8th?
I checked our Message Board
Glenda made post about seeing Police at pool July 15th?
And Rose (DR) sent me an e-mail that there were no lights at our pool on July 13th....
Did this vandalism happen before July 13th?
Hmmmmmmmm?  Did it happen before our July 8th Meeting ?
Scott?  Do you know what night it happened?
RiverLanding Community:
If these teenagers were to get hurt badly while destroying our Pool........guess what?
They can actually sue us!
And God Forbid one of them gets so very drunk that they drown in our Pool!
We only have 2 Million Dollar Insurance on our pool.........
Lawsuits today are much, much larger than 2 Million Dollars.
Our pool is becoming very impractical!
It is used frequently by only a small percentage of RiverLanding HomeOwners!
Yet our dues have had a 600% Increase since 1993 and will only keep increasing so long as we keep this very expensive pool.........that we will never be able to keep from being vandalized!

Update:  7-27-08
I received an e-mail from Scott Hedlind..........a part of it included:
"The Board members are reviewing bids to replace the 30-year old walls, but its expensive and it takes time to get everything in place."
On My Gosh!  Can you imagine how much this will cost?  I am guessing $10,000 to $50,000 ?  Maybe more?  For what?  To make our fence a block or two higher? Cinderblocks are  (Single brick 8" H x 16" W. Mortar 1/2" W) so that would make our pool walls 8 inches to 16 inches higher?
When these kids see our new higher walls............just what do you think they will think?  Hey!  Check it out!
The 'old folks' at RiverLanding made their pool walls a little higher?  Do 'they' think this will keep us out?  NAH!  NO WAY!
This 'maneuver of adding a brick or two' will just give these kids a new 'challenge' .........one they will NOT BE ABLE TO RESIST !
And I think Scott Hedlind has plans when they rebuild our Pool Fence...........that will do away with the wrought iron sections? (Since these are easily broken to gain access to our pool)  The pool walls can be 12 foot tall....yet just two teenage boys, one standing on the shoulders of the other could easily reach the top of our "new & improved" High Wall, jump down inside our pool area, then run over to one of the gates, letting the 50 other teenagers into our Pool!
So we will have a mostly "solid" fence............behind which these "neglected teenagers" will be able to "Party Hardy" at our pool, drinking, smoking pot, and "cavorting" ....ALL in much more "privacy" than ever before because of our SOLID NEW FENCE! ???
The higher fence can still be "broached" very easily with the help of an overturned trash bin, a "hand up" by a fellow teenager, a simple Rope Ladder, etc .
My dear neighbors!  Please!
A swimming Pool is a very impractical, expensive and "dangerous" feature for us to keep!
Our Pool has been regularly vandalized since the early 90's!
Neighbors who live near the pool....when they "hear" or "see" these drunken "hoodlums" ........are fearful to confront them!  Could/would you?  And when you call the "Police"...........because our pool is considered a "Private" pool.........they really do not have any authority to make these "hoodlums" leave.  They can't enforce our HOA Rules?  Some of these kids are there legitimately, actually possessing a POOL KEY!
Our HOA dues have increased 600% solely because of our very expensive Pool!
We spend $9,000 a year just for pool chemicals!
Repairs  are increasing to be several thousands every year as well!
IT WILL NEVER END!
What next?  Armed Security Guards?  Can you imagine the cost of that?
It is unfathomable to me, that us 330 HomerOwners are each spending $300 each year for a Swimming Pool that many of us never use or use very infrequently!
$300!  That would put at least a couple weeks worth of Gas in your car.....
would help to pay your house payment.....buy groceries, etc.
For $300....you could stay one weekend a year - every year - at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in a great room
and enjoy their amazing Pool with waves and a sandy beach!
PLEASE!  Now is the perfect time (before Scott & our HOA Board spend several thousands more of our money) for at least taking an "informational vote" by ALL 330 HomeOwners (and not just our 4-6 HOA Board Members) whether we should spend another $25 - $50,000 to build a higher fence that will STILL be "broached" or fill in our pool and spa, making a large concrete area, knock down the wall on the parking lot side, add some benches and maybe an awning, keep the Restroom, and make us a NEW "Community Center" where 100% of our Community can use it for events, bar b ques, etc., and Giant Community-Wide Yard Sales - 52 weeks a year!  We could even sell "space" for non-Riverlanding Residents to include their "stuff" in our Gigantic Yard Sales! (I would even make colorful "noticed" Ads at Craigs List every week for our "Gigantic Weekly Yard Sales")
Or we could increase the cost of Our POOL KEYS!  And make it a yearly charge!  Keep our Annual HOA Dues at the current $300, but to help offset the cost of the numerous Pool Repairs due to vandalism, we could make those Home Owners/Renters pay an Annual FEE for a Pool Key of $100, $200, $300 or more!
Or we could convert our Pool, and finally put an end to Pool Vandalism and the risk of us loosing our homes in a lawsuit, and keeping a "lid" on our HOA DUES!  We seriously need to make changes to our HOA!
Making ALL 330 Homeowners "informational voting members" of our HOA using an online Password-Protected Message Board that we can use 24/7 - 365 days a year!!
PLEASE HELP PUT AN END TO THIS MADNESS!

I am guessing in the beginning, we installed Security Cameras on top of our Pump House and Restroom, on the fence top in various places.  But of course, our frequent visits by teenage hoodlums, they made quick work of destroying those cameras with sticks, etc.
So our HOA spent more money for more cameras, and now to protect the cameras, they sit atop what looks like 30- 40 foot poles?  Trouble is.........now the cameras sit sooooo very far away from the kids faces.........you can't make them out?  So in actuality, the expense of these cameras are another waste of our money?  Also, I wonder how many times these kids have thrown rocks at these cameras?  And how many times have the neighboring homes/cars been hit by these rocks?
Note from Sam:  When I took this photo, I looked over the gate.saw the "release lever" that is on the inside of both gates....and saw how very easy it would be for teenagers to gain access to our Pool....they don't have to jump our Pool Wall....just bring a baseball bat, look over our pool gate, and "tap" the "release lever".....thereby easily letting 50 of their teenage friends to "Party" at our POOL!
These top 10 photos were taken Wednesday Morning 7-30-08
Above Picture is of back area of our pool .......see that wire stretched across our wrought iron section?  What a nice place for a "Teenage Hoodlum" to put his foot and step over our fence to gain access to our Pool?
The above 3 pictures are our back wall of our Pool...........nice eh?  The "poor neglected teenagers" of our community and the surrounding communities have discovered a very quick and easy way to gain access to our Pool!  Our Wall is like ALL others in our Community!  Made of Cinder Block.........where just using a hammer, you can quickly bust out the hallow center of a block, making a nice "ladder" up and over our wall!  And this same technique can be used on our Brand New 25 Foot High Wall as well!

Please......my dear neighbors! ............. IS IT TIME TO CONVERT OUR VERY EXPENSIVE POOL TO A   COMMUNITY CENTER?

I admit that I was never the "sharpest knife in the drawer" and that is especially true since my stroke Sept '05.  I just today realized:  This recent bout of Vandalism may or may not have been done by "Actual Residents of RiverLanding"!   It may or may not have been done by some teenage kids of some Home Owners and/or "Renters" who live in our Community? These Teenagers who damaged our Pool, in all likelihood, did not need to jump our Pool Walls!  Because they possessed a POOL KEY!  How long are we Home Owners of River Landing going to put up with paying higher and higher Annual HOA Dues to pay for a Pool
that may or may not be routinely vandalized by the Teenagers (and their Teenage Friends) of Home Owners and  "Renters" living in our Community?

Should We Keep Paying Higher and Higher Annual HOA Dues to cover the cost of the weekly/monthly vandalism done to our Pool?
Yes
No

Is it time we "Stop The Madness"?  Should we convert our "Always Vandalized-Expensive Pool" to a "Community Center"?
Yes
No
Lets Discuss It Further
